It is 100 yards downstream of the dry fork narrows. There is a little scrambling and climbing on this 3.5 mile loop.

If you decide your group does not have the agility to explore this canyon head downstream one half mile to the mouth of spooky gulch.

Peek-a-boo and spooky slot canyon hike. You can choose which direction you want to hike. Only 10 inches wide at some points, spooky is appropriately named. There’s no requirement to book a tour (unlike antelope canyon) and there was barely anyone on the trail.

Explore 2 slot canyons in 1 hike. This road is not for the faint of heart! It is 26 miles of unpaved road, which is bumpy, sandy, and washboarded.

This is actually two separate slots combined into one hike. It is worth noting, due to the restrictive nature of the some of the spaces in spooky, this canyon is better suited for smaller body types. The wash (and cairns) will lead you to the mouth of spooky.

2) bring a light jacket. The trailhead for these slot canyons is found 26 bumpy miles out. When reading the reviews for this hike, you will often read how horrible the road is, including.

Always a plus in my book! The time it takes to complete the peek a boo and spooky slot canyon hike largely depends on your ability. Most people should budget 3 to 4 hours for this hike.

It is located 26.3 miles down the hole in the rock road. Just their names make this hike sound enticing. While the hike is only 3.5 miles with minimal elevation gain, the rock scrambling and tight squeezes required to navigate the canyon certainly make it challenging!

Dry fork narrows, peekaboo, and spooky slot canyons is a 5.7 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near escalante, utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. In google maps, the trailhead is searchable by lower dry fork trailhead. We got to take our time and take as many pictures as we wanted.

Length 5.7 mielevation gain 633 ftroute type loop. Antelope canyon is located inside navajo indian reservation and requires you to be escorted by a tour guide (and can be quite pricy!) Spooky & peekaboo are the most popular slot canyons in the escalante area.

The road to parking is dirt, there are huge rugged gaps, pot holes, etc. The access is easy, you can easily do both as a loop in a few hours, and hikers without technical canyoneering equipment or skills can enjoy both. The slope of that hike looks a bit too treacherous for me, but then again, i’m not as adventurous of a hiker as you are!

By hiking clockwise first, the narrow spooky slot will be mostly downhill. Hole in the rock road can be accessed from scenic highway 12 east of the town of escalante. From there, hikers can turn right around and head back the way they came, or they can head overland to the south until they hit spooky gulch and continue with phase two of the adventure.

Plan for more time if you have kids or you want to take a lot of photos. Spooky slot canyon is one of the narrowest canyons in the world that hikers can safely navigate. Keep in mind, the trail is not well defined once you leave peekaboo slot canyon, so having a gps downloaded in.

The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from may until november. Adding to the cool factor of this destination is that it’s a loop — which is rare for these parts.
